Twenty years

20 Year Tag

Here you go, Shirley!

20 Years Ago:
1. I was swimming around in my mom's uterus waiting to be born.
2. I was listening to my family talk to me through the wall o' Mama and more than likely sing to me and tell me how much they loved me and couldn't wait to see me and play with me.
3. I yanked on my umbilical cord whilst in the womb and forced an outie belly button.

10 Years Ago:
1. I was 9 and in 5th grade at Alta View Elementary School. My teacher's name was Nancy Newton. She loved frogs.
2. I was best friends with Natalie Jackson, Ashley Romrell, Liz Frome, and Tiffany Cutler.
3. I loved the Utah Fun Dome that Ashley's family exposed me to (Thanks Ashley!) and worked really hard in my class so I could be the one person each month to win a free pass to the fun dome. I only missed it one time. I also loved White Towers Swimming pool.
4. We had just moved to Sandy, Utah from Simi Valley, California.
5. On the first day of school, I didn't have any friends and went to play on those swinging bar things by myself. Trying to look cool, I flipped backwards really fast, flew off, and landed flat on my butt. Tiffany was watching from the swings and walked over and asked if I was okay. Besides blushing red as could be, I said I was fine and we started laughing. We became best friends that instant.
6. I would spy on my older sister and her friends and steal her clothes and, of course, accidentally ruin them and try to put them back without her noticing. What else are little sisters for?

5 Years Ago:
1. I was 14 and about to start my sophomore year at Jordan High School.
2. I had grown my own personal testimony of the gospel and that summer and was learning to love life in every aspect of the word.
3. I was overly obsessed with Corey Gunderson and because I was so obsessed, wanted to impress him by signing up to play women's lacrosse for Jordan.
4. I got asked to the high school homecoming by 2 different boys and said no because I wasn't 16 but then Steven's good friend Lee Denning asked me and I had such a crush on him and it would be so much fun to go with Steven and that group of friends that I said yes! It was awesome. One of the best dances I ever went to. And I got released from being miamaid president because I dated before I was 16...
5. Even though I'd never played before, I made the high school tennis team!

3 Years Ago:
1. I was 16 years old and starting my senior year at Jordan high school and loving being able to date and drive..
2. I started talking to this boy online who lived in Washington named Jonathon Huckvale and I was secretly madly in love with him.
3. I was captain of the Jordan High School girl's lacrosse team and we were undefeated the last two years winning two state championships
4. I had my first job as a hostess at Brittons.
5. I got in my first car accident and crashed my mom's car. Later that day, I was fired from Brittons.

1 Year Ago:
1. I was 18 and just gotten married on August 4th to that same boy I was madly in love with 3 years ago.
2. I finished my first year of college at UVSC and BYU changed my major to dental hygiene and began my long road of crazy science classes.
3. I learned of Jonathon's disgust for sunburns firsthand when he got badly sunburned on the 2nd day of our 11 day honeymoon to a private beach in Florida and our sweet cruise to Mexico.
4. I lost a bunch of weight.

So Far This Year:
1. I applied and was accepted to the Utah College of Dental Hygiene and will be starting there this upcoming fall!
2. I received a perfect cute little white-bodied, brown-faced papillon puppy from Jonathon for Christmas. The best Christmas present ever!
3. I've learned that I LOVE science. I'm so glad I was forced to take all these science classes as pre-reqs because while it was very hard, I loved every minute of it.
4. We've trained Cosmo to learn all sorts of words and signs like sit, speak, play dead, "go to your cage"and roll over. He is a great running companion with me in the mornings sticking right by my side always without a leash and he even has learned "Go slide" and slides down the slide at the park! We've learned to love taking him for hikes too.
5. We went on the best vacation ever to California for the Huckvale Family Reunion and enjoyed every second of it.

Yesterday:
1. I studied statistics for about 7 hours.
2. Cleaned the room (you know how it is when you get home from a vacation!)
3. Went grocery shopping (again, you know how it is when you get home from a vacation!!)
4. Went running with Jonathon and Cosmo for the first time in at least a month.

Today:
1. I worked out to a work out video.
2. felt sick from working out too hard and rested
3. Made Jonathon lunch and dinner to take with him to work
4. Will study statistics for the next four hours
5. Go play lacrosse- yay!!

Tomorrow I will:
1. Study statistics all day.
2. Finish Twilight
3. Plan Achievement Days for the 8-12 year old girls at church

In The Next Year I will:
1. Be through with my first year of Dental Hygiene school
2. not be living in my mom's basement
3. work as a dental assistant for the summer
4. be finished with all my backed-up scrapbooking
5. spend more time with my sister and brother in law :)

I tag Shirley, oh wait.. uhhhhhh

"Hair ye, hair ye!"

I consider hair to be a form of art. I try really hard to take good care of my own and am constantly in search of that perfect blend of colors for me. The kind of hair that makes you look good even when you are sick and bloated. The kind of hair that people walk up to you and ask how you do it or where you get it done so they can get it too. It it is my mini obsession. Poor Jonathon has to hear about it all the time and I know that is such an un-manly topic for such a manly man! So, here I am letting it all out in the blog so that I can give Jonathon's ear a break.

I've felt for awhile now that I'd like to go to a more natural-looking 'do. I attempted it a few months ago and still regret going to a hair school to try it. I ended up spending 6 hours there just trying to get it back to a blonde that would look OK. That was when I vowed to never go to a school for certain things again, a weave being one of them. Anyway, I think I'd enjoy having a lighter brunette color with even lighter color in the front around the face.

I don't think blonde necessarily looks BAD on me. In fact, most of the time I love it! Jonathon especially loves it. Not because it's the blonde stereotype. Actually, when we first started dating, I had blonde hair and he asked me to dye it brown. So wanting to try out something new anyway, I did. And it was okay and all, but we both were excited for me to get back to blonde! Jonathon says the brown just didn't fit my personality. It didn't do anything for me. The blonde was just happy and cute.

So I think I've decided that I'm going to try to get the perfect blonde once more. I was at Costco and I saw a lady walk by with what I thought was a beautiful head of hair. I decided I'll ask her where she got it done and tell them to do the exact same thing. I've tried showing many pictures and describing it every way I can, and it never seems to come out the way I'd like. Maybe I have this idea in my head that is just unrealistic. Or that if the hair style turned out right, it'd also make me lose 5 pounds, make the gaps in my teeth close up, and make my boobs grow too! I hope this turns out well though. I'd like to finish just one time at a salon and say "It's perfect-I love it!" And I'm very hopeful that this will be the time.

Now, if this is not the way it goes, it's okay. Plan B is to keep the look for summer (it's alright to be blonde in the summer anyway!) and force myself to try out the natural brunette look again. I feel like I LOOK better with blonde hair and it's fun and bubbly, but I feel like I FEEL better with brunette. I don't like blonde hair to try and fit the barbie mold. And that is probably the reason I would like to think I'd like brunette better. Dang molds. It is also my dream to be what I like to call a "granola" someday. Many of these granolas live up in the Northwest. They eat organic food and plant gardens and go biking. Typically, they don't have blonde hair! So, I got a few years before we move up there to work on it. :)

Okay, I know this doesn't make any difference to other people and it probably seems strange that someone can write this much about their hair. I could probably write ten times this, honest! It's on my mind constantly.

Now it is on this page.

We have a blog? And cellulite.

Well, my dear, sweet sister Shirley just reminded me that we have a blog! So, I'll add to it today.

Today I'm going to begin the never ending quest of getting back in shape. What IS "in shape" anyway? I swear after you get married everything drops and spreads. It's inevitable. It's like you get married then BAM! you gain a pound. Before you even make it to the reception probably. I've found cellulite in places I didn't even know could get cellulite! And everyone tells me just goes downhill from there. Now, this is not really something that I'm obsessed with. I decided long ago I'd probably eventually gain weight and get that doughy "mom" look that 9 out of 10 women experience and that other 1 person is the one nobody likes anyway. But I decided last Saturday after heading to Golden Coral with Jonathon and his grandma and after stuffing myself with at least 4 helpings and then the third time back from the dessert bar that it's just plain unhealthy. I was fortunate enough to take anatomy and physiology classes last semester. These were such interesting classes, really, very fascinating. And I learned in depth about all the dangers of many healthy problems people are experiencing today. These are problems caused by everyday things that everyone knows about but just doesn't think it needs to be a concern for them or that it will ever happen to them for that matter. AND with watching all the forensic files/murder investigation shows that I do, I want to be able to outrun anybody that tries to kidnap me! And be able to beat them up with one hit. POW! Who cares if something sags or you get a dimple here or there, the fact of the matter is that I want to be able to live and experience life to the fullest for as long as I can. With my habits I've fallen into the last year or so, I don't feel like I could do that. So, with that said, I'm aiming to try and just be a little bit better day by day. Take only one brownie instead of two. Have an apple for a snack instead of my fig newtons. Each moment can be a huge accomplishment if you treat it as such. So even if I go for a run one morning when I ate the whole box of cookies the night before, I will be proud of myself for that run and say "Kudos to you Nancy!" People don't give themselves enough credit and applause as they deserve for the everyday mini-triumphs.

I must be very passionate to be able to write so much on the matter. Or just too lazy to finally get up and start my day. Treadmill, here I come. (Imagine the Rocky theme now...)

:)

Below is a picture of adipose tissue a.k.a. fat. Other tissue in the body are tiny compared to these big ol honkers! Just thought this would be interesting for anyone interested.
