Spring Break 2013

Both the dentists I work for went out of town this week for Spring Break so Jonathon and I took advantage of it too!

Lots of driving!
-so fun getting to hang out and sing songs and talk

Cutest Jack Rabbits all over the place! They remind me of Cosmo

Bike riding around the Ranch we stayed at

We didn't realize how much we needed a break.  We've both been working full-time (you really FEEL it doing dental hygiene 5 days a week!) and Jonathon with work AND school..  we've been soaking in every minute of recreation!

Date night to OMSI

Jonathon and I had a fun date night tonight in Portland.

We're trying to expand our experiences and explore the Northwest more.  SO we recently got a membership to OMSI (The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) in Portland and went to see an IMAX movie there tonight, Hubble.

We ate at the Bunk Bar since it was down the street from OMSI. It was SO GOOD! And hit the spot!

Jonathon's order: Italian Sandwich with beans and rice
Grilled cheese and tomato soup
with Tillamook cheddar- YUM!!

Then we headed to OMSI to watch the IMAX movie of Hubble. It was so cool!
It left me wanting to learn more about astronomy. It had some amazing and beautiful film and photos of the universe.
Jonno at OMSI
Hehe
OMSI!

We finished the night with ice cream from Salt n' Straw on NW 23rd.
AMAZING.

We've wanted to try it for awhile (due to being highly recommended!) and finally got the chance.
This place is pretty popular--
By the time we got our order, the line was all the way out the door! Good timing!

Best. ice cream. Ever.
Sea salt and caramel and Freckled woodblock chocolate
in a freshly-made waffle cone

They let/made us try almost every flavor before deciding. There were weird ones like Black Pepper Chevre Ganache, Honey Balsamic Strawberry with black pepper, and Arbequina Olive Oil (one of Oprah's "FAVORITES")

They all had a funky taste, yet amazingly delicious. Really unique.

We'll be back again!

Yay for date nights! And finally exploring Portland!

Mom comes to visit Washington!

Welcome to Washington!!
Picking up my mom from the Portland, Oregon airport

I asked my mom "What do you want to do first?"
Her response: "Get my teeth cleaned!!"

It was fun to have her come to my dental office (Larry Stryker's office) and meet everyone and get to take care of her.

She said "WOW- you're sooo much better than when you were in school."  Haha last time I cleaned her teeth was 3 years ago when I was still in school and it took THREE HOURS!  A little experience can go a long way! :)
She took LOTS of pictures of my office:

Lauren and I chatting
(She's so cute. 7 1/2 months pregnant!)

After cleaning her teeth, we decided to get a snack while waiting for Jonathon to finish work.
We ate in downtown Camas at Camas Thai - so yummy!

She loved thai food!  As long as it is NOT SPICY!

We headed home to drop off her bags then walked Cosmo down to Lacamas Lake.

falling into the lake -ohhhh no!!

Mother and Daughter :)

We ate dinner that night at Sweet Tomatoes. So yummy!
We learned how "observant" Mom is. We were leaving and she saw a black wallet someone left behind stuck in a cushion as we were walking by. I couldn't believe she saw it!  She gave it to the front for lost and found.

When we got home, Mom fixed our house. She is so smart!
Fixing our closet door and fixing our toilet:

Jonathon and I had to work on Friday so mom stayed busy by walking Cosmo, going to Home Depot to buy some toilet fixing supplies (and a plunger!), and some bananas from Walmart. :)

Mom came to pick me up from work at Gillespies. Here are some pictures of my office.  I love it!

We at dinner that night at the Harvest Restaurant in downtown Camas
Sooooo yummy!
We taught mom about eating "local" and supporting small business. We are becoming true Northwesterners. :)

Waiting for our food :)

Then we got frozen yogurt at Menchies - YUM!!
Mom LOVED it!

Enjoying her treat

We went home and watched America's Funniest Home Videos and laughed so hard.

Mom making the dogs do tricks

Saturday morning we went to Bonneville Dam and then hiked Beacon Rock.
We wanted to go to Mt. St. Helens but the visitor center is closed for winter.  We also planned to go to the coast, and decided not to because the mountain passes could be icy and didn't want to risk it.

At Bonneville Dam
At the bottom of the Bonneville dam you can look through windows and see the fish ladders. We were lucky to see a few fish because January is the WORST time to see fish. We'll go again in the future!

Great picture!

Mom LOVED taking pictures of the fish!
We were waiting and waiting to see a fish so when she finally saw one she SCREAMED!  The other visitors were startled. Haha! She was just so excited. :)

Down the road from the dam about a mile is a fish hatchery.
You can put a quarter in and get a handful of fish food.
Mom put in three quarters so we could all try it. :)

After finishing at the dam and hatchery, we headed across Bridge of the Gods to hike Beacon Rock. We hurried to make it before the sun went down.

SUNDAY: Mom's birthday!!!

Jonathon gave an awesome talk in our ward on Sunday on the Godhead.
After sacrament meeting, we headed to Portland to go to the deaf ward for my Mom.
It was at this awesome church that was really old:

Then we went to eat at The Tin Shed Cafe in Portland
It is a cool little place that actually ALLOWS dogs to eat there and even has a menu for dogs.
Cosmo ate Ham "BARK-er" Helper!
It was the best day of his life.

(INSERT PICTURES HERE... I can't find them right now!)

Driving around with Cosmo

Multnomah Falls
We rushed from Portland to make it in time before sun down. We got there JUST IN TIME!
Jonathon was tired and has seen the falls a thousand times so he stayed in the car.
It was cool because the ice was frozen on the sides of the falls. It was slippery too!

When we arrived home, we celebrated Mom's birthday with cake and ice cream and opening presents.
We chose this cake at the store that was on clearance and Mom thought it'd be fun!
It turned everyone's teeth and lips green. And STAINED it green. Lol!  It was also dairy free, which nobody doesn't like dairy but maybe that is why it was so weird and stain-y.

Mom with her cake.
We got her that cute shirt for her birthday. She loved it and it looks sooo good on her and looks very professional.
She's been using it for her interviews for work.

Mom's HAPPY BIRTHDAY poster!

Thanks for coming to visit, MOM!!!  HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!!
We LOVED having you come visit.
Please come back again soon (in the summer!) and we can go to the Oregon Coast, go to Mt. St. Helens, and clean your teeth again. :) :)

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!
